1775 - Birth of a nation

In the year 1775
The American colonies rebelled
Paul Revere saddled up for that long ride
From Boston to Lexington where he told
Of advancing Brits, whose King George was cold
In his reception of the olive branch
The Yanks offered soon after - he recalled
Their rejection of British tea was staunch
And now they had taken up arms, a stance
Which would be kept immortally alive
In their constitution, despite those killed
At Bunker Hill and Concord, fights that launched
The Revolution, and a source of pride
In that self-reliance in which they're schooled
