3072 - So we win again

Been out for a pub quiz, snowed on the way
At Cornbrook and Chorlton while on the tram

About nine of us, again our team won
Like last time, got the prize, a beer token
There was a two pound pint left from Christmas
I can admit I had a few of them
And it was tasty, drunk without a fuss
As we got most questions right and it was
A pleasure to meet what's her name, and they
Were all nice. Now I'm wondering what I am
Going to finish off with, statement-wise
Perhaps that silly victories they may
Come and go, but keep happy like I am

2115 - Salaam, so long!

The last Arabic class ended today
These lunchtime sessions were hard work, it's true
But now it's over I'll look back fondly
Fifty quid rarely proved such good value
Although Hannah the teacher's not on cue
Most weeks, and rushes through the coursework then
Leaving us dizzy, questions in a queue
That's not always dealt with. Pick up your pen
And quickly write your homework, for again
You'll not be told. She's not harsh, she's OK
She's from Greece, she's had seven kids, and knew
Arabic because of twenty years spent
In Saudi, met a man from Sudan, they
Now live in Prestwich. So, salaam to you!

2107 - A fridge too far

It's Tuesday night, the week is flashing by
I've had a quick guitar practice just now
Also reread some Arabic, but why
Can't the teacher get it right? Tell me how
Can I do homework when she can't seem to
Photocopy all the pages we need

Last month, on my phone, managed to exceed
My call allowance, meaning I'll have paid

Myself with more snacks from the fridge, then I
Will have a shower and wash hair with shampoo

2089 - Of my day off

Hey, I took the whole day off work today
Not a half but a whole day in the sun
I did sunbathe after lunch, after the
Lawnmower man had finished with his din
But first I worked on songs, and then worked on
My Arabic, feeling more confident

This is, that is, my name is, almost learnt
The teacher's even typed 'Tony' in it!
Got a film to watch later, or I may
Watch Pink Floyd night on Beeb 4 with a can
Or two to cool me down. I also went
Trouser-shopping, got yellow chinos. Hey -
Wait til you see my new pale blue jeans on!

2080 - Captain A-rab

A night off tonight, staying in, saving
I've just found out that I'm doing comedy
Next Monday 21st, not doing
Music as I had thought. Originally
It was supposed to be my new funny
Stuff, so fair enough, the preparation
Is markedly less, and it's less scary
Maybe it's for the best. But still I'm down
For guitar practice tonight - should be fun
Texting Katy of course, recovering
Once more from Arabic class, so tricky
But getting near the end of ten weeks' run
Can almost read and converse, providing
I study it on Tuesday nights properly

Pontius Pilate once wondered what is truth
Well may he, but the answer is easy

Philosophy agrees with science. Bull
And truth intertwine in straight lines of growth
In fields fertilised by technology
Weeds of selfish opinion that strangle
Crops of hopeful guesswork. To challenge both
Is to be burnt at stake or nailed up high
