3214 - Have a break, have a chit-chat

A nice sunny summer evening. Trouble is
I'm finding it hard to resist the lure
Of a relaxing drink and smoke, though this
Is what I did last night, had so much brew
While out and then back at home, had to pour
The last half-bottle away down the sink
Just had to go to bed at last, before
There wasn't time to sleep before getting
Up for work. At work, not that many in
Our team were there, but good old Emma was
And so we had a good chat, good jaw-jaw
Some fun and some quite serious discussion
It's reassured me that sometimes at least
Some people aren't so bad as others are

2896 - It was a sunny day

This is a day late, no time yesterday
To write a sonnet, too busy you see
After the Shrewsbury trip followed by a
Late night in Salford pubs... Today, Josie
(My last visit before my holiday)
A nice sunny day, we both went to town
I bought some clothes for when I go away
Couldn't resist an apparent bargain
New jacket and World Cup t-shirt now owned
Josie tried clothes on in Hollister. Me
I just sat in an armchair, patiently!
Ate at Pizza Express, Wilmslow. Back down
To Manchester, met Nancy to have a
Chit chat, back to flat, more chat, late beddy

2834 - Who nose?

From somewhere I have developed a cold
So I've not bought beer or anything bad
Just chatted to Nic, first time for age-old
And before that, wrote a few pages at
The Salford Arms, for next to nothing. Had
A 50p cup of coffee, sugar
Too, a special treat. I've managed to add
About 10 pages last two evenings. Ah -
I know redrafts will be needed, else there
Will be wasted ideas. Characters fold
On the hastily written script, it's sad
How they may never be unearthed. Should care
Enough to do it write. Work hard. I'm told
It's the best way. Don't be a lump of lard!

1446 - Blarney Schwarzenegger

In 1446 - it’s no blarney -
The Blarney Stone was placed in that high tower
In Blarney, County Cork, in that country
That, like Blarney, sets mere talk that much higher
Than action; makes blarney into art; the
Blarney of those in Blarney’s the acme
Compared to Blighty, Ireland’s conqueror
(It was the Normans, though - it wasn’t me!)
But Blighty’s type of talk’s often mighty
Untrustworthy for me. I like blarney
Obvious blarney can’t be lies. “Drinker!
You’re talking nonsense!” Oh well, bugger me
Now who’d have thought it? A pub in Blarney
Is where to be throughout each long shower

1217 - Summary of family fun

My daughter, P, is 22 today
But after texting her to wish her well
I spent a few hours first with little J
We went shopping, then to the swimming pool
She didn’t want to leave; I tried to tell
Her she was late, but she wouldn’t climb out
A quick McDonald’s, where they tried to sell
Me a sour choc milkshake; I had to shout
For a banana one to replace it
Next, a meal to celebrate P’s birthday
At Dough - so filling, it was a struggle
To eat it all, and no room for dessert!
A lively day, enjoyed it all the way
And a grown-up chat with both P and L

1212 - Like the Marie-Celeste

So few in work today, I sat alone
Apart from the bleached blonde married woman
Two rows of desks away, and also some
Behind those tall grey cupboards, all hidden
Sparse voices in the office, abandoned
By most floundering in the aftermath
Of one more cold blue Christmas almost done
I’m emailing Ian again; I’ll have
To call him when I’ve done all my work stuff
Well, that didn’t take long. Reach for the phone
And have a long chat with that man Ian
Because to fill this empty day is tough
Without some chat to fill it up; someone
For company, though in a far-off town

1073 - Death of a website

It’s 1.30 a.m. Winding down now
After madly typing up my sonnets
Though Blogger and Google would not allow
Me to, I snook into my own website:
Antonionioni.com… ‘Right!’
I thought, ‘I’m in! I’ll take this chance to post
My backlog of blogs, if it takes all night!’
For nearly two hours I posted the most
I could, and then… Shut out! That site’s now toast!
Chatted a bit online, a bull and cow
Discussion between male and female sex
Then back to typing sonnets (but no posts)
They’re only on my hard drive (well, for now)
Next, I must plan for my brand new website!
