2467 - Woke early from a dream

How am I still awake? Woke up in light
At five-fifteen, am ready for bed now!
Strange, but I feel quite ashamed to say it!
Silly! I'm seeing Josie tomorrow
So hope I get good rest... and said I'd go
Out on the town with Dermot, evening time
If I've the energy after Wilmslow
With my daughter. When will Louis arrive
So I can hit bed in double quick time?
He's been to see a film, maybe seen twice
Maybe gone to his Mum's, hey, I don't know
My eyes are hurting, I need some dark time
Been talking about Katy, Rob got quite
Upset, but knows they just have to split now

2466 - Morning warning

Woke up at half-past four, like, oh my God!
It was so light and warm, thought it was six
Maybe, but when I saw the clock I had
A shock. Wide awake, a headful of thinks
Got up and went on Facebook in two ticks
Watched breakfast news, had to pass time until
The office was open at seven. Walks
Along the canal at that time are still
And quiet, no disturbance from cycle
Or jogger. My foot feels OK, all good
Except at work they rang, said I should fix
Some time to have it looked at in Eccles
Drop-in surgery, so I decided
A week's wait to get sore underfoot checked

2465 - Relaxing day off (or rehabbing day off)

Just drank loads of coffee and watched TV
Triple dose of my favourite, Jeremy Kyle
And from my home town, watched Come Dine With Me
Representing Lichfield with no small style
JP - whoever he is - wore wig while
Endlessly talking, dominating things
He had personality, made 'em smile
Also interesting for some cross-dressing
And an all-blue lycra suit, close-fitting
And then some! The Apprentice still to see
Or a prog on D-Day - continental
Invasion and all that shit - interesting
But kind of old hat, so I'll stick with The
Apprentice. Three bags full, Lord Sugar! Cool.

2464 - Good shit

Defiance of the strike, worked as normal
A lovely sunny day, warm when I left
Thought about songs for Thursday, ate my fill
And rehearsed with Dermot, pint in 'Oxford'
Then to the Kings Arms, comedy of a sort
My act went OK, so the feedback said
I tried to be shit, managed it of course
Things happened that came out of my own head
Sniggers a-plenty, to me they were wed
Inevitably, went to the Castle
The usual nonsense followed as pints poured
Themselves right down my all too willing head
Now here I am, it's nearly three - Salford
Has rarely seen such humour. Now for bed...

Written last night while drunk - Tue 4 June

2463 - Get your socks off!

Been limping today with my sore foot - ouch!
It's not that bad, it's a corn or bunyan
I think, but on the underneath. To touch
It, it's quite tender, and so to tread on
It with each step is not really much fun
Walking along the canalside, cobbles
And broken, cracked and irregular stone
Ain't easy with a sore foot, but troubles
Still seem to recede beside the bubbles
The birds and geese - that rower, he's no slouch!
This morning, though, I made an appointment
Tomorrow morning at the doc's, I'll pull
Socks off and show her my painful bump, much
To my relief if there's a prescription!

2462 - Tom Brown's body lies a-moulderin' in the grave

Last night put together some comedy
But found out today that there were no slots
No work's ever wasted, no tragedy
That I won't do it tonight, won't go out
Quite like the solo routine 'what I wrote'
Watched 'Tom Brown's Schooldays'- not a good version
'Come Dine With Me' from Dublin on a plate
You can't beat the accents of old Ireland
Do dey moit nat be yer sloice of gammon
At least not going out means I can see
And cringe at England playing Brazil, not
Easy even at home, but there, with Wayne
Rooney our only star, it could be three
Nil to them, or worse. They'll knock off our spots

2461 - Bunyan's still-grim progress

Pleasant but fairly uneventful day
With Josie, in Burnage and Fog Lane Park
My bunyan, corn, or whatever you say
That lump under my foot started to irk
About halfway through, so maybe next week
I'll find out what it is, get it seen to
I'll make an appointment to see the doc
Home now, it feels quite sultry, just like you
Would expect from June, though it seems so few
Days are hot and sunny, that's now the way
Of the weather. It's finally getting dark
It's past ten o'clock, various shades of blue
Perfect for a fryin' barbecue, they say
Never mind, me and Jo both bought huge steaks
