1952 - African chessboard

In '52 begins the current reign
Of Britain's Queen Elizabeth Second
George VI dies of cancer, and a plane
Brings her back from Kenya, which is now bound
For trouble, since the best of Kenyan land
Has long been appropriated by Brits
With profitable settlements, hired hands
Paid cheaply. The Mau Mau rebellion hits
Back, although Jomo Kenyatta soon sits
In prison for years. King Farouk in vain
Struts corpulently in Egypt - he's gone
And from their Gold Coast colony, the Brits
Are also leaving soon, Nkrumah's 'reign'
In Ghana bringing hope for Africans
