Not so long ago, back in '56
Nasser was making waves in the Suez
Canal, nationalising it for Egypt
Britain and allies France were unimpressed
And, with Israel, thought they'd invade to wrest
The land from this pushy Arab, but then
They were overruled and told to desist
By the equally pushy new UN
Meanwhile, Cyprus' Greeks wanted union
With Greece, but this plan surely put at risk
The Brits' military base. Hungary was
Keen to leave the Warsaw Pact. Tanks rolled in
From Russia. Suddenly, there was Elvis
Look Back In Anger, and Brigitte was sex
