2044 - Outrageous fortune

Yesterday evening, no laughing matter
But yet, like everything, experience
And further hot fuel poured upon the fire
It doesn't matter who crookedly wins
It's who wins fair and square, cronyisms
Defeated like the last scene of Hamlet
Which I've just seen, Larry as the sweet prince
Too slow to act, no rewards to collect
Except his story told - Horatio, get
Your best quill ready. Yet, Will the father
Will already with sharpest word outfence
The skull's sculptor, gravediggers' employment
And commune with his own dead son, each tear
Turned into boldest ink, loss to romance

1543 - Three minute meditation

Nothing much has happened and it's late
So this is a quick silly one today
It's cold and the door's open, and the weight
Of time and circumstance really does weigh
Heavy on us all, so much so we pray
To the tooth fairy and to Santa Claus
That we will get something good soon when they -
Whoever they are - put their generous paws
On some decent gifts for us. Then, applause
Will come their way, for are we not ingrates
Unless we get more than our fair share. Play
Should be fair, but fairest of all to us
We want abundance placed upon our plate
And we want happiness and joy to stay

1223 - Uncertainty

Deciding what to do is a problem
In life; a billion possibilities
But not all paths are passable, and when
You start out on one, sometimes there’s a freeze
And you get stuck halfway, among the trees
Or treacherous slopes, icy surfaces
And sheer isolation. So do you please
Yourself, which is the hardest path, or base
Your journey upon sensible advice?
Stay in, go out, look up, look down, suspend
Plans, scrap them, or amend? And which of these
Is the right, the most appropriate choice?
Just fighting on, and hoping, in the end
Is the only way any of us sees

1127 - Flightpath to Dreamland

It’s almost here! I’m sitting waiting for
The time to drive to Birmingham Airport
But first I’d really like to sleep, before
My odyssey begins. The sounds were fraught
Last night, below me, as that couple fought
With words and maybe more. Heard many bangs,
And none of amorous kind, though time has taught
That sleep is reduced when I’m feeling pangs
Of excitement or worry about things
Happening next day. A physical law:
Adrenalin kicks in; you can’t transport
Yourself to Dreamland. Feeling like a king
Before the battle that’ll save him or
Dethrone him, I await fate’s random sport

1089 - Out of tune, out of time

Oh no! Oh no! A week’s work is ruined!
I finished a tune tonight, so I thought
But at the last moment evil gremlins
Crept into the mix, and tore it apart
I can’t save it now; I will have to start
From scratch on Monday, re-record it all
This music software, it’s broken my heart
A week of work’s been reduced to fuck all
The tune was ‘Red’ - but now it’s just a pall
Of smoke from a bonfire, blown in the wind
It won’t play properly, it keeps stopping short
Then starting again. Sounds bloody awful.
Maybe in a past life, or this, I sinned
But I must live with what my fate has dealt
