3255 - Dumb defeat

My computer's half-asleep, it's real slow
I think it's struggling, and it feels quite hot
Perhaps it's near its final time to go
Anyway, it's still working, so let's put
Some words down quickly, before it's 'kaput'
Listening to Sparks radio show on Beeb 6
Talking of the BBC, it has got
Criticised a lot lately, the critics
Focusing on shows like 'The Voice' - but Strict-
ly (the very popular dancing show)
Though also dumb, is defended a lot
Because it makes money, exports and shit
I like that there's no ads, but there are no
Guarantees, its status looks nearly lost

3219 - Through the media darkly

Very tired, often am in midsummer
When those light mornings get inside my mind
Spent what seemed like hours listening to the
Night-time radio, hearing horror of blind
Hate and sexism in Middle East land
I think that made it hard for me to drop
Off for a while, so hard to understand
But how much do we really know from top
To bottom, is it all bad or to stop
Believing what you hear and see, media
Bias towards the west we understand
Can prevent the whole truth being served up
Life is chaos, it's very rarely fair
All we can do is work hard til the end

2993 - Laughs of the day

A nine hour plus sleep, luxury untold!
A good morning for it, it's clocks back day
Yes, our clocks go back one hour, so we could
Have a long lie-in and still have the day
Left to use or abuse, ignore, obey
Once I rose, I watched TV as usual
And then a gnawing duty seemed to say
'Write comedy!' and so I grabbed my quill
And in forty-five minutes wrote my fill
Of Dr Baxter mirth inducers. Gold
Seam of merriment found 'neath rocks and clay
Good soccer today, the results were brill
Listened to radio commentary, and sold
On watching highlights on Match of the Day

2567 - Turn it down again

My stuff didn't make Newsjack, first attempt
Has failed. Listened to it last night in case
It did, but no dice. Change of plans, been sent
A message from Jo's mum, I've been replaced
By Alice, Saturday, so I've got space
Tomorrow to write more stuff, see Josie
On Sunday instead. That suits me, I'll face
The challenge of writing some new and hopefully
Funny stuff tomorrow, but what's funny
To me ain't necessarily so felt
By others, as that show shows! But the pace
Must quicken, and I'm striving to be free
To do what I want. It's disappointment
Also on the job front. Got turned down for a place...

2563 - Hip to the groove

Woke up after 6 hours, time enough to
Iron 2 shirts and get to work early
(By my standards) so I could quickly do
The sending off of scripts in time for the
Deadline. Let's hope they like my comedy
Sketches at the Beeb! Left office at 4
My task, to catch the train to West Kirby
And arrive in Greasby (my mum's home) for
6.30, so Hannah could could drive to Nor-
folk tonight. I've relieved Hannah. We two
Are helping Mum recover, because she
Had her right hip replaced 2 weeks or more
Ago. Claire and Robin have helped, it's true
The family's still close, just like it should be

2475 - Amy, you're driving me crazy

I keep waking up halfway through the night
Why, when it's the darkest time of the year?
I sometimes do this in midsummer's light
When dawn comes early, but why, how now, sir?
I wake from a dream, my mind starts to stir
Last night I kept singing Amy Winehouse
In my head, of course, nothing you could hear
Apart from radio, all quiet as a mouse
TV reception's bad these days, I lose
The chance to watch most channels now, so might
Move to BT Sport, it should be cheaper
Than Sky broadband (with football as bonus)
Let's hope there's an end to my sleepless plight
I hate being tired, it's not clever or fair!

2417 - Radio blah blah

Round-up of stuff from what I'm up to now
Listened to Radio 6 while ironing
Heard 'Round Table' for first time since don't know
Then Marc Riley came on while I'm reading
Emails, now I've switched over, I'm watching
Top Of The Pops '78, not seen
Some of these acts since that time, time passing
More nostalgia next - they're about to screen
'The Likely Lads' first episode that's been
Hiding since '73. Used to show
That before Pot Black, or after, I think
I used to stay up with cocoa, all clean
After my bath. Read Danny Wallace. Who?
Dunno, but I just read a book by him

2330 - After the ball-ache

It was party night late last night next door
Sounded like fun but none of them can sing
And the bass was cranked up, the playing poor
But they're good mates, bless 'em, they're doin' their thing
They should know when the X Factor's coming
To town, they should pop down to do clown pop
And hope they go down well when Lou's voting
They started at 3, about 5 they stopped
While they were playing around I did drop
Off and dreamed of loud live music, but for
Only a few minutes. Tried listening
To Radio Four over their noise, strange crop
Of loud and quiet, but which one was the bore?
Too tired for playing axe, exercising

2176 - Radio nights

I've been to work today but now two days
Off work to look forward to! Last night lay
Awake listening to the radio, cos
There was a piece on northern soul, then they
Went on to a feature on comedy
Old Americans, Groucho, George Carlin
I'd left the radio turned up quite loud - see
You don't do that when you have been drinking
Cos when you wake up, the thing is blaring
Out conversation, laughter, tunes - it was
That which woke up my mind, then long delay
In getting back to sleep, which was tiring
Me for the day ahead. So now I'll laze
On the sofa, read, hear United play
