1603 - From Tudors to Stuarts

In 1603 Queen Elizabeth
Still a virgin, they said, drew her last breath
And not long after her untimely death
Her favourite, Sir Walter Raleigh then went
On trial for treason, though he never meant
To get involved, they now think. He was lent
More years of life, but shut up in the Tower
For thirteen of them, ah poor Sir Walter
I wonder if they let him smoke in there
Meanwhile, James VI of Bonnie Scotland
Was now also James I of England
While Shakespeare held his tragic pen in hand
There was a Black Death outbreak once again
As in every year, quite a lot went on
