1311 - The Battle of Halmyros

The Battle of Halmyros, near Athens
Which frankly I had not heard of before
Took place back in March 1311
Between the Frankish knights, so famed of yore
But who on this day ended steeped in gore
Struck down from their noble steeds stuck in bog
As they bravely charged o'er the flooded floor
Flooded on purpose by those dirty dogs
Mercenaries lost in history's fog
Known as the Company of Catalans
Foe of the Turk in Anatolia
As chronicler Ramon Muntaner logs
Long before the flood tide of Ottomans
Swept aside the old Byzantine Empire
